Printing Details

Printing will likely be the largest cost factor in your book estimate. If you are trying to stay within a certain budget, please note that 4-color printing is billed at a higher rate than pages that print black-only. We recommend designing your book with this in mind!

Please remember that the total number of pages must be an EVEN number. And, if you are printing a booklet, the total number of pages must be a multiple of 4.

The total page count will automatically be calculated as you fill in the following fields. Note that this should total to an EVEN NUMBER. Books cannot have an ODD NUMBER of pages!
Number of pages to print in full color. For best results files should have an embedded CMYK ICC profile.
Number of pages to print in black only. Images must have an embedded Greyscale ICC profile. Text must be set in black only (NOT registration).

Interior Paper Stocks

The paper stocks listed below have been thoroughly tested on our printing presses and with our bindery equipment (if you don't see the list below, be sure to select a Binding Style above and the paper stocks available will appear). For printed samples of our paper stocks, please order our Paper Sample Book.

Please note: We can easily accommodate up to two paper stocks per book. If you wish to use three or more paper stocks in the interior of your book, they will need to be collated by hand and incur a higher production cost.
Page ranges must begin on an odd page # and end on an even page #.

Endpapers

Endpapers are an essential structural element in hardcover books. They adhere the book block to the hardcover case. Endpapers are a visible element in all hardcover books and they provide the inside lining of the cover and the first leaf of the book.

Paperback Cover Lamination*
We recommend lamination for any heavily printed exterior surfaces. Without lamination, exterior surfaces may incur scuffs or scratches during the binding and finishing process.
Do you want cover flaps?*
Total cover length of cover and flaps cannot exceed 24". Important: books with a cover and flaps exceeding 18" can only print single sided.
Do you want a tipped in image on the cover?*
A tipped in image is when a printed image is glued onto the cover of a paperback book. It works especially well with unprinted covers.

Foil Stamping

Foil stamping is a debossing process that requires a metal die be cut from the artwork supplied by the client. The metal die is mounted into the stamping press, heated, and used to press a heat-activated adhesive-backed metallic or pigment foil into the artwork being foiled. The result is a slightly depressed area filled with a pigment or metallic foil.

Foil Stamping Artwork Details

The more details we have about your foil stamping design, the more accurate your estimate will be. If possible, please share with us a composite of what you'd like your stamping to look like, as well as the dimensions of the artwork.

If you choose to not include this information in your estimate request form, we will use default sizing to calculate the cost of the die fabrication and foil stamping. In this scenario, please note that the final cost for die fabrication and foil stamping may vary from the estimate you receive.

If you'd like, please attach a composite of the foil stamping artwork below.
